“Colored Princess” was a song I really wanted to be explosive in terms of writing and emotion. This song is written for my big sister Ruth. She’s an amazing artist with drawings, and paintings that are beyond words and are an inspiration to our own family and to anyone in general. My goal for this song was to inspire her to express her artwork and become the best she can possible be without fear or shame in doing so. It’s also kind of interesting that the Disney film Frozen, helped with the writing as well. Elsa’s gift with the power of ice is parallel to Ruth’s gift in the art she creates. I thought that was pretty cool.
